2000 Chevy S-10 S-10 Pickup

I need to have repairs on my S-10 truck since my 95 Grand Prix is about to go down after 169,000 miles. The truck sat in a garage for about a 1 and 1\2 years. I started the truck often & one day the "check engine light" came on. The next time it acted like it wanted to start, but wasn't getting any gas. I couldn't hear the electric fuel pump come on when key is turned on to start. What is the approximate cost of a fuel pump & approximate labor cost? It also needs a U-Joint so I think all of the U-Joints should be replaced cause they will all go out. How many U-Joints are there in a S-10?
You know by now I am a female & the more I appear to know when it finally goes to a garage, the better off I will be financially.
