Y does my 2000 s10 blazer 4x4 run at 210 & heat up more when towing & what can I do to make it run cooler? It seems to run 210 all the time? My wife has a 96 s10 it runs cooler does this maybe have to do with the fact that mines a 4x4 n has a skid plate slowing down air flow & less grill eara for fresh air?

same engine 4.3 vortec

what could I do to make it run at 196 were my wife truck runs not 210 & still be smog leagel

The factory t-stat is to open fully at 195F. If you are at 210 and hotter when towing, I would start by replacing the t-stat (may be sticking) and having the system flushed. That should help.

I did it has a brand new failsafe 195 in it its been flushed 3 times rebuilt the top end upgrading the intake gasket then flushed the cooling sys 5 more times with radiator cleaner n water from the heater core to get rid of the dexcool before I put in green prestone. The rad is not pluged it it new the heater core is not pluged of gets real hot inside cap is 16lb. Also new.A 180 therm will mess it up because the engine wont get hot enough for the computer to run a closed loop so it will run rich n mess up the EGR valve so it wont pass smog

Ok, it sounds like you have done just about everything. What I want you to try is this. With the engine cold, open the radiator. You will need a radiator thermostat. Most parts stores will lend or rent them. Place the thermometer in the radiator and start the engine and allow it to warm up. Check to see if the thermometer and your temp gauge give you the same reading. If they don't, there is a problem with either the temp sending unit or the gauge itself.

If you have already tried this, let me know.
