My 99 S10 has 78K and a V6 vortec engine. The AC is blowing out extremely hot air. I tried charging the system with one of those cans of coolant but it isn't helping. It seems like my compressor may not be even turning on. Could it be something less expensive then replacing the whole compresser system?

IT could be electrical in nature and not a fault with the compressor. Such as a cycing switch. pressure switch, excessive coolant temp. What may have complicated this is that adding more freon, may have overcharged the system.
