Z- is a throttle body injection engine. W- is a CPI injection. The early W's (aluminum top intake manifold) can be swapped with the late Z's. If the W engine has a plastic top intake it is not interchangeable. The late Z and early W had balance shafts and a few other minor changes to them (heads) to get more power and efficiency and to vibrate less.
