Engine Mechanical problem
1994 Chevy S-10 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My truck has been running great previously and then this morning while starting it for the first time today, I heard a loud "pop" under the hood, much like a pressure hose of some type popping off it's fitting. After that, the engine started and immediately went to a smooth, but high RPM in neutral for 15 seconds, then a gradual drop to normal idle but very rough for a few moments then it died. I have tried starting it several times with the same resulting sequence of events. I checked all gauges while running (temp/amps/oil press etc.) All normal.

What do you think? Thanks!

Try cleaning out the idle air control valve and check the coolant temperature sensor

I DISCONNECTED THE ENTIRE AIR INTAKE ASSEMBLY INCLUDING TWO ELECTRICAL SENSOR CONNECTIONS AND OTHER THAN RUNNING A LITTLE HIGH RPM AT IDLE, RUNS GOOD NOW. I THEN REPLACED ASSEMBLY WITH CONNECTION, PROBLEM COMES BACK. I THEN ONLY DISCONNECTED THE TWO SENSORS AND IT RUNS GOOD AGAIN, EXCEPT HIGH IDLE. WILL RUNNING MY TRUCK THIS WAY HURT ANYTHING UNTIL I CAN GET TO A MECHANIC?

Did you clean out the idle air control valve if not do so-running it without the sensor will increase fuel economy.
