1994 Chevy S-10 alternator

My truck is making a whining noise. Its coming from the motor, I have talked to different people and they all say different things but my brother who was a mechanic says its the alternator, it does it every so often but the last couple of days its been doing its been whining really badly. So is it the alternator?

Hi well you can start by taking a long screw driver and while the truck is running be very careful and place the end of it on the the parts of the motor that are driven by the belt and see which one seems to be the loudest, this willl usually narrow it down to what is making the noise or you can take the belt off and spin the pulleys by hand to see if which one is making noise.
