I have two problems. The first is the temp gauge always reads at the lowest, heater and defroster both put out heat, both lower and upper radiator hoses are hot but the overflow hose is not hot. Is it the thermostat? Second problem, the engine idles too high and I do not see anywhere it can be adjusted. Thanks

First, chances are the temperature sending unit is most likely bad and not sending a signal to the gauge. As far as the high idle, is it fuel injected or does it have a carb?

Let me know. Also, has the check engine light ever come on?

The check engine light comes on when driving, not at an idle and it has a throttle body (single fuel injector) I found a vacuum leak and the idle lowered but not as low as it should be, thanks

Have you ever had the computer scanned for codes? If the light comes on, there is a trouble code set in the computer. Most nationally recognized parts stores will scan for free, so there is no money out of pocket to find out. It should direct you to the problem.

Have it scanned and let me know what you find.

The auto parts suppliers around here say they do not have a computer for the truck because it is too old. I have to find a code book and will try the paperclip method. Thanks
