I have an 86 s-10, I bought from a friend. He put in a new fuel pump and after that it sat for 3 years. I came up on it. Changed the battery and plugs, flushed out and re did the oil, and we found the pump wasnt hooked up right. I fixed it, it gets fuel (with good pressure) and spark now, it does turn over but still it wont start. Could it just be the old gas? Or maybe plug wires arent giving enough spark? Or timing? The injectors are good and its getting fuel to the chambers.

You are getting a snapping blue spark, the correct fuel pressure and injectors are pulsing I suggest you check the valve and ignition timing-Double check the fuel system

I have an 1986 S10 too and I had problems getting it to crank, it was getting both fuel and spark. I had to pump it over and over while trying to crank it to get it to start. I am having problems still with mine with high idle. I wish you lots of luck with your 86. Still don't know why I had to do that to get it to start. It only did that on first start of the day.
