1983 Chevy S-10 ALT wire

In my other s10's there is a wire from the alt to the battery but in my 83 there is not and I have lots of problems should there be a wire and what gage?

There should be a plug with two small wires @14-16 gague. Then on back of alt. A big red wire @10gague.

Ok
there is a plug type thing that leads into the wire harness
there is a post that has a large wire that goes to the starter then the battery has a feed from pos to the starter yet in my 87 and 86 there is a wire that goes from the post to the battery, did someone forget this on my 83?
