Chevy Prizm 1998

4-1.8L F/inj. (16V) DOHC (8)

My air conditioning was completely replaced about 3 years ago.

About 3 weeks ago while driving through a traffic Orlando, my car started to over heat from moving so slow in traffic. Before it hit the red, I moved to a lane that exits the highway. By getting the airflow, the car returned to normal temperature and I cut back into traffic, now moving, and headed home.

During this overheating, the Air Conditioning stopped working.
The clutch was not engaging so I charged the system with R-134a. (As directed by Interdynamics)
The clutch now engages, but I still only get hot air.

The hot/cold vent moves manually via a cable and works fine.
There are two fans, side-by-side, behind the radiator.
The fan on the passenger side does not come on.

Can you tell me where I should be checking next?

Hi Little Blue 98,

Thank you for the donation.

When the engine overheats, the compressor would be disabled so it would not work.

The things that you need to do now would be to check the low and high pressure readings.

Get the radiator fan checked, that should be the cause of the overheating.
