Drive Train Axles Bearings problem
1972 Other Chevrolet Models V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic alot miles

I was checking my rear brakes and i took the left rear drum of and found the whole thing filled with grease. Grease covered the brake shoes and cylinder and drum. Whats the problem and whats it gonna take to fix the issue. I havent had much experience with this truck. I just got it from my father and he got it from his father who was original owner. Your assistance with this problem is appreciated.

you've got an axle seal leaking. It needs to be replaced. YOu can replace teh wheel bearing at the same time. the brake shoes should be replaced but you can also clean them andthe drum with lacquer thinner. It may lock up though after doing this . do not use gasoline as a cleaner. You can use mineral spirits to get the grease off also but will take longer to dry.
