01 Monte with 3.8 temp guage works some times some times not. When the guage stops and drops all the way down the engine fans come on and I get code 128. I have checked when the guage is not working and there is 5 volts going to the sensor. I have also checked the resistance of the sensor hot and cold and it is good. What do I check next?

Try replacing the thermostat Po128 is a range problem with thermostat. When the event occours the thermo closes providing no coolant to operate sensor or gauge. The gague drops PCM turns fans on to prevent overheating code Po128 sets.
