Fuel pressure and ignition timing checked out-concentrate on the transmission-could be a problem with the vacuum modulator-

WELL IT ONLY HAD A 1 BARREL ON IT AND THE FUEL LINES HAD RUST IN THEM BUT IT WOULD GO AND HAD POWER BUT AS MUCH AS A 1 BARREL COULD HAVE I GUESS. THATS WHY I DONT UNDERSTAND? I FIGURED IF I JUST UPED IT TO A 4 WITH A NEW INTAKE IT WOULD BE SWEET. THEN I FIGURED THE PROBLEM WAS NOT ENOUGH SPARK SO I PUT A HEI DISTRIBUTOR ON. SAME THING. SHOULD I DO A COMPRESSION TEST ON IT OR MAYBE AJUST THE VALVES. BUT IF SO WHY WOULD IT LET ME TAKE IT OUT AND BURN EM OFF THEN DO THAT. THEN AJUST THE TIMING. BE ABLE TO BURN EM OFF THEN AGAIN DO THE SAME THING. AGAIN THANX FOR YOUR HELP!

Lets narrow it down, does it feel like a shifting problem, or a fuel problem? Does tranny wind up and not shift? Or is it fuel starved? The floats may need adjustment.

And your detent cable from the carb to tranny? Is that set up so it kicks down when you stomp on the gas? This could be a part of the shift problem. If not set up right you will have low power on uphill climbing and getting on it when already moving, no downshift. If you belive the carb is set up right, and there is a lack of power, try getting another carb, yours could be defective. Your carb's gas pump is moving on acceleration?
