I have a 1999 Chevy Malibu, 73,000mi, automatic, 2.4L engine. It rained exceptionally hard, and I turned down a very flooded street, and while trying to turn around and go back the other way, it died. It hasn't turned on since. All lights, radio etc are fine, it just won't turn over. The air filter was drenched when I took it out. Do I need a new engine, or, is it possible it's something else....something easier to fix?

Get it out of the water, pull all spark plugs, see if engine will turn over, sometimes what happens is water fills the combustion chambers, and since liquid cant be compressed, you get a hydrolock, this can and usually does destroy motors!
