DefectiveTemp Gauge, Check Engine Light Stays on

2001 Chevy Malibu LS w/ 3.1 L Engine and 90,000 miles. Temp gauge does not move, check engine light stays on. Both happened within last two days. Please advise.

To start a diagnosis we need the OBD2 code/s that triggered the check engine light. You can go to autozone and get read for free or places that provide the free services and comeback with the code/s and we'll get this thing rolling.
