2004 Chevy Malibu power assist steering.

Any recalls or factory repairs on power assist motor, sometimes it lock's up and must muscle the steering. Correction is turn engine off restart and it works fine for awhile.I've heard a lot of complaints on this subject. Had motor "replaced"when car was inwarranty very pleased with car runs great and ac blows cold.

Due to the miles on the car, you may have a broken or frayed wire causing the problem. That car has electrically operated power steering. You need to have a pro look at it he can run a scan on it and see if there are any codes stored.
