2001 Chevy Malibu 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic
I want to be absolutely certain before I install the head. Are the head bolts torque to yield? I was told that if they are, then I don't need to use any thread locker or sealant.
thanks,
thomas

That's correct. There was a revision made and now you use TTY bolts on your Malibu head. Do NOT re use bolts. Use new TTY bolts and follow tightening sequence below

Thanks for responding. I bought some new bolts and found the new sequence in service bulletin. The guys at Pep Boys told me not to use thread locker, but to just coat lightly with clean engine oil the threads and underneath the bolt head. Is this information accurate? I only ask because this is not a repair that I want to do more than once on the same car. Thanks again.

That's right, no sealant needed on these bolts. Just lube them with some clean oil and you're good to go.
