Engine Performance problem
2001 Chevy Malibu Automatic 163500 miles

my car tends to hesitate (very sluggish)when accelerating from a stop to about 30mph. After that it seems ok until I stop again. It seems to go away completely after driving for an extended period of time. The check engine light comes on and goes off at all different times.

Next time light is on and you can get to an Auto Zone have codes read then post. Does it feel like say a manual trans and you tacking off in second?

Yes it does kind of and all I need to do is just ask them to do that at any auto zone. There are certain times on expressway when tryin to pick up sppeed that the rpms will shoot up and kind of sound like its in neutral until I take my foot off gas and then its fine

300 is a random miss is idle good and steady?
404 is EGR valve I would remove clean carb cleaner and blow out passage ways. Neither of these will cause the apparent transmission problem. The going up in rpms like in neutral is something you want to get looked at soon. Either dealer or trans shop need to do diagonistic testing.
