Engine problem
2000 Chevy Malibu 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 52000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I just came home from getting what I thought was an oil change......I was not present when my mechanic change the oil.....I thought something was wrong because it only took about 10 min. When I got home I check the dip stick and it appears that there was nothing on it.....I then open the oil / engine cap and looked inside.... it looked EMPY... am I suppose to be able to see the oil when I open that cap?

Nothing will show when the oil cap is removed.
With the engine off and on a level surface, the dipstick can be removed, wiped off and re-inserted. There will be marks on the dipstick for where the oil level should be. Somtimes craooshatched marks, some times holes, sometimes pointed groves etc.

Go underneath and check the oil drain plug/oil filter could be loose and you've lost all the oil.

You should see the oil on the oil dipstick-

am I suppose to be able to see the oil when I open that cap? the oil cap should not be dry-that oil is pressurize all over the engine it should have oil on it-not dry to the boner.

Stop driving it and pull a CSI on it-if you continue to drive it -it will cost you a major problem and could require a new engine.
