Hi my vehicle has been doing a sudden accelerration problem when you turn the vehicle on the rpms sppeed up past the 3000 and will nto stop tell you turn it off I looked up and there is a recall for the problem for the 2003 malibu but mines is a 2000 I was wondering if there was a solution to the problem because it makes it almost imposssible to stop and its almost as if the car is moving by itself it literally went up a hill by itself! This problem has also triggered the popular anti theft malfunction in the car to where if the car for whtaever reason thinks its being stolen it will not turn on for like tten minutes I was wondering if anyone could help me
thanks

Hello and thanks for donating

The recall for the 2003 Malibu is similar to Toyota's recalls and has to deal with the accelerator pedal sticking and not coming to a rest at proper idle position. This recall does not effect the 2000 model. In your case, there is most likely a sensor that has failed, such as the idle control valve. Is the engine lighlt coming on in dash?

Check out our description of a IAC valve at https://www.2carpros.com/how_does_it_work/how_an_idle_air_control_iac_works.htm

it is fairly simple to replace, yes. if the engine light is not on though, most likely a sensor is not at fault.
