Theft light come on

We bought the car used and don;t know much about it 2000 chevy malibu theft light comes on and won't start we keep turning the key and eventually it it will start

The most common cause of Passlock issues is the sensor in the ignition switch which would require a new ignition switch and a relearn procedure but it would require a Tech2 scan tool to be able to diagnose it properly.
