2000 Chevy Malibu engine surges

Engine surges at highway speed when climbing a grade or upon hard eceleration whether or not cruise control is engaged. When cruise is engaged a tap on the decelerate button will correct the situation.

Inspect and test all the following listed below its long but its worth the try that will cuase surging/hesistation

Oxygen sensor.
Catalytic converter.
Fuel injectors dirty/sticking.
Mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter.
Throttle position sensor.
Manifold absolute pressure sensor.
EGR Valve
Fuel pressure regulator leaking, fuel filter or defective fuel pump.
False air leakage.
Fuel contamination.
Foul/defective spark plugs.
Open spark plug wires.
Ignition coil/Coil packs defective.
Incorrect ignition timing.
Cap and rotor.

Note:If it doesn't apply disregard.
