I am no mechanic but in the interest of saving money I have tried to replace my ac compressor myself. Well that went pretty smoothly but i'm left with a white plastic strainer of some kind. It appears to be a line filter of some kind but I am clueless as to where it goes. Can you help?

Is it about diameter of a pencile? Maybe 2 1/2 to 3" long? If yes that is orfice tube that goes in high side line after evaporator. Did you flush? Accumulator replaced? If this stuff not done then you will be replacing COMP again

I did replace the accumulator but did not flush. I had planned on taking it to a shop to have it charged. If I dont run the system until after I have the shop flush and charge will that be okay? Or am I going to cost myself more money?

You will be O.K. To drive to shop. Did new compressor come with oil? Be sure and tell shop if it has oil and how much so they can add proper amount. Was it the orifice tube?

New or reman compressors come pre oiled. But the oil in the compressor from the box is in no way sufficient for normal use. It must b filled with oil. This can b done at home as well you can pick up the oil in a pressurized can and use the ac filler hose and the put it through the service port. And yea get that filter drier in there and oil it while you charge. You can even buy a can of freon with treatments of oil with it. At napa atleast.
