1998 Chevy Lumina not shifting out of first

Transmission problem
1998 Chevy Lumina 140, 00 miles

All of a sudden my lumina will not shid=ft out of first gear I have already had the modulor valve changed and I still will not come from frist gear. What elsi could it be?

Have any warning lights come on? Have you made sure the fluid is clean and full?

I have checked the fluid it is brown but does not smell burnt. The fluid is also about a quart over. Ihave been told that it is ok for the fluid to be disclolored so long as it does not smell burnt.

No there are no warning lights. At all and never have been. Its just weird for it to work fine and then all of a sudden just not shift from first gear. There is nothing else the matter with the car and I have never had any trouble with the trans slipping or jumpimg. Also no engine trouble.

If the fluid is brown, it should be serviced. However, I don't think that is going to fix this problem. I believe you have a bad shift solenoid.
