Brakes problem
1998 Chevy Lumina 4 cyl Automatic 100000 miles

My brakes work fine. However, sometimes when I use them the brake lights work and sometimes they don't. All my lights in the back work as far as turn signals and tail-lights. I've checked to the fuse pannel in the car and everything seems to be ok. What could be the problem?

First thing to check is the switch down by your brake petal. It might be sticking in when you push the brake instead of popping open making the connection to light up your brake lights. Might be able to clean it or maybe have to replace it. Could even be loose wires at the switch connection. It's not fun to try and get your head down there by the petals and have a flashlight handy. Maybe a second person to watch the brake lights for you as you play with the switch and the connections.

We have recently repaired this issue on our Lumina. The car had to be rewired because the wire was either cut or corroded.
