1997 Chevy Lumina Engine Size unknown Front Wheel Drive Automatic 987658 miles

The volts light keeps coming on and I do not know if this means the battery is bad or it need an alternator. It just quit on me last night while driving. Every thing went dim and then it would not start. I charged the battery but it still says volts on the dash and the charger kept saying the battery was low. Can you help? Thank You Bonz

I also have a 97 chevrolet lumina and the same problem was happening with the volts light. You need to make sure your battery is at 100% or you burn your altanator up (trust me I have put 3 on) The altanator on those cars are made to maintain voltage not build it back up so if your battery is bad it will slowly burn it up. I would suggest taking it out and charging the battery or replacing it.
