The car shuts off while driving. After a few minutes, it then starts up and drives perfectly. Have not been able to identify the problem, but when it happens you lose steering and brakes so I am worried about a dangerous situation should it happen on the highway or in traffic.

Had the same problem with mine. It started out as an occasional stall just like you described with no electrical power at all, then it could be started again.

It got progressively worse while I made the rounds to garage after garage. Since it was an intermittent problem it wouldn't show up on a diagnostic and naturally wouldn't happen in front of a mechanic.

In the end, there was power to the dash, lights, etc. But when the key was turned all the way to start there was a loud click and then nothing, the battery would be instantly drained.

It turned out to be a loose connection at the fusebox (not the fuse itself) for the ignition wire.
