1997 Chevy Lumina Cannot seem to get my car to turn on

Here it is:

Whenever I try to turn my car on, you can hear the pistons starting to fire and then they suddenly stop and all you hear is something like a steady screech as if it's trying to start, but cannot. I had my dad listen to this over the phone and he suggested that it may either be my starter or fuel pump. Any help would be great.


I should also note that when it is just idling, it revs repeatedly (unless I apply some pressure to the accelerator) and sometimes turns off.
