My 97 lumina starter was replaced Feb. '10 reman lifetime warranty autozone. Now it cuts off in the middle of starting. All connections are tight and clean and battery is newer and fully charged. It does this occasionally typically every 7-9 attempts to start. Engine is running fine when started, and starts quickly and easily when starter is engaged. Is my starter in need of replacement? I read on your website about poor reman starter reliability. Thanks. This is daughter's car. I need it to be dependable for her.

What exactly is happening? Does it start and stall? Does the starter just quit cranking suddenly? Please give us a better description of what it's doing and how you eventually get it started.

The starter just suddenly stops cranking. Each time after this I try to start it and it does the same thing. Then at times it will start like there is no problem. When it stops cranking there is a clattering noise briefly.

That does sound like a bad starter but would have to be tested during the failure to conclude anything.

Are you of the opinion that reman starters with LLW are prone more to fail than original equipment, and/or do u know autozone's reputation for their duralast parts. I have had pretty good luck with duralast. Thanks Wrenchtech! Bob Swank

Of course they are. That stuff is just Chinese made junk that is marketed well by giving a warranty. They don't care if they have to replace it a dozen times. They aren't the ones that perform the labor.
