Engine Performance problem
1992 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl Automatic 110000 miles

I BOUGHT THIS CAR AFTER IT SAT FOR 8 MONTHS.
IT RAN OK FOR A MINUTE, THEN ONE DAY THE ACCELERATOR WENT FROM 0-50 IN TWO BLOCKS AND MY FOOT WASNT ON THE PEDAL. WHEN I WOULD TRY TO BREAK SOMETIMES IT BARELY DID AND WHEN IT DID IT CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP WITH A HORRIBLE NOISE COMING FROM THE BRAKES. I THEN REPLACED THE GASKET AND THAT TOOK CARE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE ACCELERATOR, BUT NOW THE CAR STALLS EVERYTIME I COME TO A STOP. IT WILL RESTART RIGHT AWAY BUT WILL STALL AGAIN WHEN I STOP. IVE BEEN TOLD TO CHECK MY FUEL FILTER, BUT I DONT KNOW WHERE THAT IS LOCATED, SO IF YOU THINK THIS COULD BE THE PROBLEM WOULD YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHERE TO FIND THE FILTER. WHAT ABOUT THE FUEL PUMP? THE CAR RIDES DIFFERENT KNOW TOO. IT KINDA SHAKES ALITTLE AFTER 45MPH. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP. CR

Look under the car right in front of the gas tank, that cylinder looking thing is the fuel filter. The fuel pump is inside the gas tank. Try turning your key on but dont start it, you will hear a slight whining noise, thats the fuel pump filling the line. If you can hear that, odds are the pump is fine. You should change your fuel filter every so often anyway, its only $35 to have it done. The stalling im willing to bet is the tcc sticking. That is located inside the tranny. Use seafoam transtune to cure that issue. You may want to check your tps "throttle position sensor" as well, they're known to go bad fast on the 92 lums. "I own one too". I went thru a ton of stuff to cure the stalling at red lights issue and found that the seafoam trick along with a clean intake and new tps/iac sensors fixed it. Oh, clean out your vac lines and spend the 2 bucks for a new pcv valve.
