Engine Performance problem
1990 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl Automatic 107000 miles

My Van has recently started to spit and sputter when going up hills. I know I have a transmission fluid leak and the hose is not attached the air filter. So I was wondering what could be the cause of this problem and how serious is it?

If the transmission fluid is within normal then it will not affect the vehicles performance what-so-ever.

I would check the ignition timing, try a higher grade of fuel, and clean the MAF sensor if equipped.
