I got my first oil change on my 2010 Impala last week. It had approximately 4200 miles on it when I went to have it changed. The engine oil % guage read it had 72 percent oil life left. When the mechanic was finished changing the oil he told me the oil was off the dipstick. I am very concerned. It's not burning it and it's not leaking it, so was it low to start with. I'm really considering taking it back for a new car. I bought a brand new car so I wouldn' have to worry about it having been abused, now I have a brand new car that ran 4200 miles without enough oil. Please advise.

I worked for a gm dealer for years. Personally I dont think you have anything to worry about. Most likely what happen is when they did the inspection on the car when it came in, they didnt check the oil. Alot of time they come in with a quart missing. I think its a way for gm to cut corners. They have been doing this for years.
