When I step on brakes, there is a squelling sound. I have been told that my brakes were fine, What could cause this noise

well the squeeling is usually and indication of low pads. however, rotors that need resurfacing will do it too, and sometimes, sand gets in there and will cause a squeel, the best thing to do is inspect the pads with the tires off to determine how much "meat" is left on the pads
