2002 Chevy Impala 3800. Knock

I have 3800 engine and all of sudden when I started it I have tapping or knocking noise coming from the top of the engine and does not go way or quiet down. I ran it for 2 miles after that and now it sits.

What are the possibiltes?

I was told that it has hydraulic lifters and usually they would make less noise as the engine gets warm.

Hi:
If the noise is at the top of the engine, chances are it is a lifter or a rocker arm. To check, you will need to remove the valve cover on the side the noise is coming from. It could be a few things.
