Engine Mechanical problem 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 170000 miles I am trying to locate my knock sensor to replace it. And am having a bit of a problem. I have the 2001 Impala LS 3.8L. If anyone can help me locate it, or better yet post a picture pointing out the location.

Hello,

The knock sensor is located in the lower part of the engine block. Here is some diagrams (below) that will show you the location.

Tighten the knock sensor to 19 N.M (14 lb ft)

Knock Sensor (3.4L VIN E)On lower left rear of engine, below exhaust manifold.

Knock Sensor (Bank 1) (3.8L VIN K)On lower left side of engine, near starter.

Knock Sensor (Bank 2) (3.8L VIN K)On lower right side of engine.

(Check out the diagrams below)

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Cheers, Ken
