Defroster selection only blows through dash vents. What is wrong?

Hello,
It sounds like you have a faulty mode door actuator.
The mode door actuator control where the air will flow. When that actuator fails it will get stuck in one position and will not function.
That is when you will get air thru only one position regardless off where you turn the knob or push button for the air flow.
The mode door actuator is located under the dash on the passenger side. (see diagrams)
