Hi, I have a 2000 Impala with a 3.8 V6 that has been well maintained. It has about 65000 miles on it. A few months ago I started it up and noticed a slight tapping coming from under the hood. It only lasted a few minutes and went away. I check the oil and it is good. Since then, the tapping has returned a couple of times, every time it only last a few minutes. If you rev the engine, the sound also speeds up. Other than that this car runs great. No warning lights or changes in the gauges. Starts fine, has plenty of power. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

What it sound like is a lifter is hanging up a little. Next time before you decide to change the oil use some engine flush. It will help clean the engine out. I have a subaru and it is loud, when I start it up even though I have good oil pressure, then the noise goes away after a couple of minutes. I have driven from new york to florida with it like that a few times. If you think it is getting too loud have a mechanic listen to the engine, but when the engine has not been run so he can hear what lifter it is.
