1996 Chevy Express no start

I have a no start it tries to start when you hold the gas to the floor. When you let the gas go it sounds like the timing is off. This happened a few weeks ago and it cleared up mil light went off and had no other problems. I suspect it may be in the distributor early in the year I had a problem where every now and then I would get a missfire for a few mins. I assumed an o2 problem. I noticed that their was green like corrusion present on the distributor. I hope I have given you enough info so you could possibly help me also I had ran the van low on gas the night before the no start. Had trouble stsrting but it started.
