My problem is that when I drive it with the a/c off it cools between 174 and 190 when I turn on a/c it rises to 228 and hotter I turn it back off before it gets any hotter this is in traffic on highway its ok it started while driving downtown savannah ga in bumper to bumper traffic I looked down and my gauge was at 257 I immediatly got out of traffic hit a back road turned on the heater and got it cooled down. Next day changed coolant took out thermostat put in boiling water it opened and closed properly no warnings or codes came on. When added coolant it did take two gallons of 50/50 bled the thermo housing any ideas

My experiences with the problem your having has been partial blockage of cooling tubes in lower part of radiator. I live and work in FLA and this is a common problem. Know rad hard to get to but feel the core towards bottom if cooler than top then blockage.
