1990 Chevy Corsica engine fan

The fan in my car only comes on on the ac side when we have it on the defroster or heater it overheats the car we need to find out how to fix it. If u have any ideas on how to fix it please let me know

Most likely faulty Coolant Temp. sensor that turns on fan when hot.
