What does it means when I am told I have a broken baffle in the muffler? And it it imperative to fix now? How much would I expect to pay for such a repair?

The baffle is a tube with holes in it inside the muffler, when broken, it does not do a proper job of silencing the exhust, it will wave a harsh vibrating noise, backpressure can also rise, affecting engine performance. A new muffler will solve the problem. Shop around for best price.
