2005 Chevy Cobalt engine died

My 05' Chevy Cobalt died while driving. After pulling over the message on the dash was engine power reduced, disabled engine. It's like it was electrically disabled, but after sitting for a bit it started right back up and ran great. My OBDII code reader had an error trying to read the engine code so I don't yet have that. Hard to trust it now, any ideas?. Thanks

Certain vehicles have an inbuilt safety feature to stop the engine when it detects a fault? There could be numerous reasons for this to occur, untill you manage to read the DTC, I cannot add more sorry.
