1998 Chevy Cheyenne Two Wheel Drive Manual

I replaced the ignition switch on my truck as per the repair manual. When I turn the key to start, the engine turns over and starts until I let the key go. I have tried everything. Any suggestions.

Was this the problem before you replaced switch? If so look a wiring find the run wire on switch check it for power then continuity.

He actually replaced the locking mechanism because it was broken. (I am writing to you for my 17 year old son. I'm the Mom) It worked before he changed this mechanism. Now the security light on the dash is on and the problem of the engine shutting off after starting the engine and letting go of the key. Hope that makes sense. Thanks again, Lesley

When you change lock and key the computer needs to be reset because new key does not match old info in theft deterant module. I suggest tow to dealer and get repaired. Needs a scanner to do the job.
