89 Chevy Celebrity 2.8 130000 miles: After driving in stop and go traffic for 30 to 40 minutes when I try to start the car it wont start. Ive had a gentleman help by tapping the starter a couple of times and then the car starts. This happens mostly during the summer months in Las Vegas Nv. The Radiator, hoses and cap are new and the temp guage doesnt get above 220. Before replacing the starter what else could be causing this problem?

Verify that there is 12 volts at the power lug (big one) and that you are getting 12 volts to the trigger (small wire) at the starter. If so then the starter is bad, which is why when you tap on it, the car starts. Bad spot in the motor, and will eventually not work at all.
