I have a 2000 chevy cavalier about 170,000 miles I recently took off the air filter and noticed two burn marks why and how come this happened my car just had a tune up and now it backfires when starting and the check Engine light is on HELP
Might want to go to auto zone get the check engine light code scanned, That should direct you to fixing youre problem.

A burnt air filter is a sign that the engine is backfiring through the intake system. This is a potentially dangerous situation as you can imagine. Surely the check engine light is on. Have it checked out, any AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts will do this for free. Possibly the engine has jumped time, which will cause backfiring, but the car should also be running rough, which you do not mention.
