I have a 93 chevy cavalier with 167656 miles on it and its a 4 cylinder it runs but when you go to drive it or put it into gear it sometimes dies and when you go to drive it it backfires and dies. What do you think could be causing this problem?

Check engine light is it On or has flashed.

Could be ignition timing off, oxygen sensor, idle air control valve, throttle position sensor, and manifold absolute pressure sensor. Or a low fuel pressure.
