Electrical problem
2004 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Automatic 52213 miles

Dear Sir,

I have send in my car for repair, concerning the cruise control at the GM dealer's, Goodwrench.
The technician tested my car and changed 3 parts on 2 visits.
The first part replaced was Brake Light Switch and on the second visit, Brake Switch Retainer and Engagement Switch.
But the problem still persists. The cruise control sometimes cut off when I'm driving in the freeway,
at above 35 mph in town or during freeway driving.
Somedays it does not cut off after going long distances and sometimes not working at all for some distances.
I have send my car back for repair and testing, but the cruise control remain working.
Can you tell me what is the actual fault?
Recommend me another good mechanic or GM Technician?
I have GMPP Deductable!
Your co-operation would be very appreciated.
Thanking you in advance.

Sincerely,
Jeffrey Tan

Well with what you are discribing it could be the cruise control module could be the power control module or even the cruise switch. If you had a scan tool I would walk you through some tests. If you can get one to use let me know and I will walk you through some test. You said they replaced the brake light switch but did they check the cruise control brake switch not the stop light switch? There are two cruise control brake switches one that operates you brake lights and another as back up incase the other fails. Then is the vehicle speed sensor too. Let me know how it goes.

Dear Racefan966,

I do not have a scan tool. I am not a technician.

Can you recommend me a Goodwrench workshop or technician with Scan Tool to check and repair the Cruise Control.

Your co-operation would be very much appreciated.

Thanking you kindly.

Sincerely,
Jeffrey

I do not know how I can recommend you a shop in your area. I live in North Idaho. So what you should do it call around and check with friends and see who they would recommend. Also make sure they take you coverage.
