When I set the cruise control on my 2003 Cavalier going down the expressway (70-75 mph) the car will downshift about every minute or so. The road I'm traveling is straight, flat and there is no wind. The set speed stays constant but the car downshifts like I'm going up a steep hill. It used to do it occasionally but now it's everytime I set the cruise. I don't have any problems when I travel at that speed without the cruise on. Could it be cruise contol problems or transmission? Can I fix it on my own? The car is otherwise fine.

It could be that the cruise module is misreading the speed sensor coming frm the trans causing this. It could also be a bad connection or bad ground. The ground is on the transmissiission and you could lclean it and see if it changes anything. Otherwise a pro will need to check this.
