Got an estimate for replacement of lighter port. Think that $81 labor cost for a $9 part is excessive. Is this a fair price? Already replaced fuse once. New fuse still blows out.

Well hate to say it but yes $81 is fair depending on where you live most shops have a standard per hour rate and most times a standard min charge of 1/2 hour to 1 hour regardless of the repair but my question to you is why do you think the lighter port needs to be replaced let me know of what you are tring to do with it like does the new fuses blow trying to use the lighter or are you tring to use it for lets say a cell chargerlet me know and I will try to helpyou out it may not need replacing thanks

My cigarette lighter was working fine but when I pulled out the plug one day the lighter came out with it! It must have been getting unscrewed slowly for a long time then finally came out. I cannot screw it back in because the other end keeps moving. Can I just unscrew the bottom part of the dash or are there precautions I have to take like electrical and I do not want to activate the airbag. I am not really familiar with cars and the thick manual I have does not say anything about cigarette lighters.
