2000 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

hey, well last week I bought a 00 z22 cavalier standard, it has 255 xxx kms, well the first night I had it, it started to make a funny screching noise, I got to my buddys house and jumped out to see what it was, couldnt find a the problem so I shut the car off and stayed for a few, well I went back to start my car and I had nothing seemed liek the starter was gone, so we jumped the car since its a standard, the next day I checked the starter and it had nothing so I replaced it and the car worked fine, it worked fine all this week until last night when I had the same noise, so I pulled inot my yard and got out to see smoke rolling out of my starter, I shut the car off and started it back up it worked fine no noise, well I got driving again and it started makin the noise again then quit, I got driving alittle further and my dash lights gauges and radio began to quit then start, then the radio came back on and and my guages started to work just no dash lights, well I shut my headlights offbecause there was nothing there, I decided to try to turn them back on and all myaguages started to do the same thing again and it felt like my car wanted to quit, I got it home and tryed to start it again wouldnt start, the noise kinda sounded like it was locked while the car was running but im not sure. Ihelp please?

Take the starter and alt. Off and take them to any autoparts store and get them tested for free. You can also get a starter "draw" test (starter installed in car), this will tell you how many amps the starter is drawing to start the car.

Double check the part number on the starter to make sure you got the right part.

It is possible the flexplate is damaged, but I would get the starter and alt. Checked first.
